Isortoq Reindeer Station is located in South Greenland, in an isolated area of breathtaking beauty. The nearest towns, Narsaq and Qaqortoq, are roughly 100 km away.

Visitors fly to South Greenland's airport, Narsarsuaq. Further transportation by boat or helicopter to Isortoq can be easily arranged. We have a number of boats available, depending on the size of the arriving group.

South Greenland is characterized by deep blue fjords, mountains, green valleys, icebergs, glaciers and, of course, the ice cap. Isortoq derives its name from this glacial activity.
A river flowing from the nearby ice cap empties into the saltwater Isortoq Bay, carrying silt and sediments from the glacier, and coloring the water a muddy grey ("isortoq" is the Greenlandic word for "muddy water").

Isortoq Reindeer Station is home to a herd of more than 2,300 wild reindeer that roam an area of 1,500 km2. The range of the animals is bordered by the ice cap to the north, the fjords to the south and the west, and a fence to the east.

In the fall, a large number of animals are herded together and slaughtered at the station's own modern facilities.
This high-quality reindeer meat is destined for markets in Greenland and Europe.

The station consists of four houses, meat-processing facilities, and various buildings for storage and electrical power. A small hydroelectric power plant produces electricity for daily consumption 8 months of the year. Diesel generators are used for the cooling and freezing systems.

There are a number of accommodation options available. Visitors can stay at the station's guest house or in the nearby cabins - we have a total of 8 double rooms. The guest house features showers, a kitchen, a dining room, and a living room. Guests can either prepare their own food in the kitchen or have meals served, depending on the arrangement.
We also have two additional remote cabins. One of them houses up to eight people, the other one can accommodate four guests. The distance between the cabins is about 10 km.

Isortoq is an ideal location for a number of outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, riding, hiking, camping, skiing and snowmobiling.

Come and discover the unspoiled wilderness of the Isortoq area!
